Vladimir Nabokov," Laughter in the Dark "

Love is blind ... For several centuries, we repeat these words for Shakespeare, but giving up miłosnemu blindly, not realizing this, what price will we pay for a moment of weakness.

hero, a man called Albinus, a man married, wealthy and generally respected. However, it is something that preoccupied the mind statecznemu man. Frivolous woman wants, other than his calm and - in his view - a colorless wife, Elisabeth. When he meets in a cinema usher young Margot, this immediately awakens the senses. Man abandons his family and his life so far matured for a young lover, who is in fact a vulgar girl with aspirations to become a film actress. Albinus blinded by love can not see that the affection is unilateral, and Margot is the only source of whim and money. Clever girl initially "only" manipulating him, but then without batting an eye deceives and betrays him with his friend. Albinus after an accident in the literal sense loses sight, lover wybranki his laughs in his face, teasing him and flirting with Margot at his side. Blindness in the novel is therefore a dual dimension - metaphorical and literal.

interesting is the design of Laughter in the dark . Already in the first words revealed a novel is its ending, which is a procedure often used in movies where the plot is appropriate to clarify how certain events occurred. The film is also present in other spheres of the novel. Well, cinema played an important role in the life of the hero, being a determinant of the announcement and his fate. Here Albinus lover knows, there is significant motion picture posters and excerpts from the film, which sees a man, and which do not arouse interest in it due to ignorance of the beginning of history. Man does not realize that it was he who writes his own destiny missing part of the story ...

Laughter in the dark This pleasant reading but requiring a minimum of intellectual effort. I particularly like for a large dose of irony and style of the author (not without merit there is a translator). After Nabokov's books will still reach for.
